Siding, Trim and door color, please HELP!

I am having some issues deciding on our exterior color palette.  What I do know is that I don't want our home to look like every other house in town.  I want to be a little edgy, but without ruining the likability for re-sale...  I love slate grey siding, and I know I want a painted front door.. but I can not figure out the trim color.  Should I keep it cool and go with a lighter grey?  Should I play it safe and go with white trim?  Or, should I take a risk and go with a lighter tan color?   Keep in mind that our roof is boring light grey..

This is the Slate Grey color I am digging so far
Here are a few homes with the siding color I love..

Door option: 1. BLACK!  I would use auto paint to give it extra gloss..

Option 2: a limey green front door

  1. Personally, I don't think white is the safe choice. I love the idea of white against the slate gray. Maximum contrast=maximum impact. As for the door, if you go with white trim I'd go all out on the color. The green is great! And a door would be easy to repaint if you need to tone it down for resale.

  2. I like your choice, Joellyn. It's good to get an opinion from ya, b/c you have great taste!
Now I just have to convince Brady that the green door won't be too crazzzzy

  3. I like the idea of the slate gray w/ white trim but I don't suggest a green door. It reminds me too much of the awful green that was in that house when you bought it. Remember the funky green interior trim and the awful green garage doors and exterior trim of years past? Yeah, I know, I'm too conservative.

  4. I'm all about color but I also think white makes things pop. Trim wouldn't be too hard to repaint though for resale so you could try a color. I like the second picture with a mix of white and a color. I also love a colored door. Our neighbors in Butte had a red door and a white house which looked great, I've also seen a maroon door with grey trim that went nicely. I'm sure whatever you decide will look great!
