Spaghetti: Part two

I said I was going to start updating my blog more often, then I take almost a month long break...  geesh!

We got around to hanging the Spaghetti chandelier.  I couldn't be more happy with it.
As I mentioned, I was nervous about painting over the antique brass.  After spending about 20 minutes in the spray paint isle I stumbled across a dark glossy grey that was worth a shot.  Long story short, it's the icing on the cake.. or umm, the parm on the spaghetti?!

This room is still far from done.  It needs art above the bed (which is already taken care of, just not in this picture), the nightstands need more styling, the closet needs finished, and the there is an entire blank wall to dress up. 

We also added a ceiling medallion.  I just think a light feels naked without one.  Brady hates them.  But he will survive.

Craving some Spaghetti!

My Mom n I stopped at a garage sale last weekend and I found the most amazing light.  It's an acrylic Spaghetti Lamp from the 1960's.  $25!  It was too dated for the sellers homes, but it will feel right at home in my house!

 I'm hoping to get it hung up tonight.  The delay.... Brady vetoed the antique brass.  Sad face.  I love it so much just as it is.  But it's his house too.  He rarely has an opinion on my decor choices so I figured I'd better let him win this one.  He took it outside n sprayed the brass white.  I think I'm regretting letting him touch my new found love, but I'll just have to suck it up and deal with it. 

It's going to hang over the bed in the basement guest bedroom.  The acrylic goes well with the acrylic knobs on the yellow dresser..

This is the nightmare of a mess that I am dealing with in this bedroom.   That's what happens when Brady's friends spend the night.   At least hanging a new chandelier makes washing the bedding seem a bit more exciting.

Bathroom #2: Progress

I used to have to hold back from vomiting when I walked into this room..

And finally after demoing the entire gross mess, digging out the entire concrete floor, about 5 trips from the plumber, and Brady finishing off the room... it is looking somewhat finished!   It's not perfect... but man oh man is it an improvement!!!

The mirror is my favorite part (Pier 1), the light is a painted Restore light.. but I don't think I'll be keeping it.

I have been desperately searching for a good TV stand for the basement.  Originally, I was looking for an old dresser that I could convert.  I went to garage sales every single Saturday since they started this year, with zero luck.  I went to every antique store in town, with no luck.  I search Craigslist every day, twice a day, with no luck  Then on Tuesday I decided to check out the Salvation Army.  And there it was, much better than anything I could have dreamt up in my mind.  It's a mid century file cabinet.  I bet the designer of this lovely piece of furniture didn't know that one day it would work perfectly for a 55 inch flat screen TV.   My day kept getting better when I checked the price... it was only $25.  Shocking!  I'm in love :)

Leaving it in its original condition would be fine, if we had the right furniture to put with it.  I decided to be a little more gutsy and paint it a bight color.  I pulled a blue tone from the painting, currently hanging in my office.  I'm moving it downstairs so it will get more attention.

My Dad and Brady carried into the garage.  It is actually really heavy.  They don't make furniture like they used to.

Stairs: before and after

Sadly, we don't have any pictures of the stairs prior to demoing.. this is all I could find. yep that's some sort of home made baby gate.  I know my Mom will appreciate the pic of the dreadful green paint. eeek

After patching some holes, it started to look like this

As for the sweet new lights in the after pix... We bought them at the Re-store for $6 total.  I love them.

We just updated them by painting the white pendants a semi gloss black.  Easy-peasy!

A lil dust won't kill ya!

Over the weekend, we painted 95% of the basement and installed 95% percent of the flooring(all but the staircase and laundry room).  Can I get a hallelujah?! Our entire house has a thick layer of dust from the remodel, so excuse my quickie picture.

And a look back... Good BYE FLAMES, drop ceiling, paneling, vinyl tiled floors!!

We decided on Allure flooring.

So far, we are extremely happy with it. It is very easy to install.  Initially, it wasn't the cheapest option out there.  When you look at all the laminates and tiles and other flooring options, you usually need to factor in the cost of underlayment and a vapor barrier... This floors warranty is void if you use either.. so when you add it all up, this was actually pretty affordable and has 2 less steps for installation.  We were also sold on it being a floating floor.  Our concrete has about two layers of very old vinyl flooring that we did not want to remove.

FANTASTIC!!!! basement progress

Last week, Brady finished all the framing and sheet rocking.  Who ever "remodeled" this basement in the past was not a carpenter.  Brady had to work his butt off for a very long time to fix all the STRANGE issues and make it what it is today. 

Rather than waiting for him to find the time to perf-a-tape, we hired it out.  In 5 days, we had a fully taped basement... so worth the $ because it is hard to make perf-a-taping look good. 

In a few days we will be painting.  Since I didn't think our basement would ever get to this point, I have been frantically picking paint colors.  I'm not sure if I've just been staring at sheet rock for too long, but I am really digging that light grey color... Brady on the other hand never wants to see "sheet rock grey" ever again in this house. 

I'll keep ya updated as we progress even further.  For now, enjoy some before and progress shots.
